A Little Bit About the Company
The beginnings of Bobcat can be traced back to 1947 when EG Melroe first opened the Melroe Manufacturing Company, the same man who invented the Melroe pickup. Melroe saw great success with his company, up until his death in 1955, at which point the business was passed to his sons. Three years later, they met Cyril and Louis Keller.
The Kellers, up until that point, had focused on farm equipment repair, until one particular customer mentioned how difficult it was to clean the second story of their turkey barn. This prompted the Kellers to build a simple front-end loader with two drive wheels and a rear caster wheel. They took this invention to the Minnesota State Fair, where they encountered the Melroe brothers, and were eventually hired.
The first product to bear the name Bobcat was the M440, back in 1962. While at first, this was only the name of a product, it became something of a nickname for the company as a whole, and in 2000, they officially changed their name to Bobcat Company. In the same amount of time, the company expanded its lineup again and again so you can always find exactly what you’re looking for when it comes to these models.
