When the weather gets colder and rain turns into snow, snowplow crews work tirelessly to keep the roads clear. Our team at Bobcat® of Parry Sound understands how important it is to stay safe while driving, so we’ve put together a few tips for operators and drivers alike for the snowy season.

Operator Tips

For snowplow operators, there are several useful tips you can implement in order to stay safe on the road. First off, it’s important to be prepared for your trip before you go. It’s obvious that the conditions won’t be the best, but this means you should dress accordingly and have the necessary tools available in case of an emergency.

It also goes without saying that being aware of your surroundings becomes even more important when the weather is bad and you’re operating a large vehicle. Visibility may be reduced, though, so you’ll want to reduce your speed when necessary and make yourself more visible to other drivers by using your caution lights and other visibility markers.

Motorist Tips

For motorists sharing the road with snowplows, it’s important to make the appropriate adjustments when you see these vehicles on the road. First off, you’ll need to slow down! Give the snowplow plenty of room to operate and only pass when it’s completely safe to do so. Even if you’re on a four-lane road, check that you have adequate space and visibility before using the left lane to pass.

When snowplows are on the road it’s important to slow down and pay attention! Whether you’re an operator or driver, you can visit us in Parry Sound, ON, to view our selection of snowplow attachments and other equipment. We proudly serve the Muskoka and North Bay areas.
